ASTRO Issues Its First Clinical Guideline on Radiation Therapy for Bladder Cancer
For appropriately selected patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, bladder preservation can be a curative treatment option, according to a new clinical guideline from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO). The recommendations support trimodal therapy (maximal transurethral resection of bladder tumor followed by chemoradiation for bladder preservation) as an alternative to radical cystectomy and provide guidance on the use of radiation therapy after surgery and for patients with metastatic or symptomatic disease. The guideline, ASTRO’s first focused specifically on radiation therapy across bladder cancer care, was published by Ballas et al in Practical Radiation Oncology.
DAROL Examines Darolutamide With Lipid-Modifying Agents in Nonmetastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer
In a post hoc analysis of data from the fourth interim analysis of the DAROL trial, the androgen receptor darolutamide was well tolerated, with no cumulative toxic effects or new safety signals among patients with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer receiving concomitant lipid-modifying agents. The results were published by Luz et al in a research letter in JAMA Network Open.
FDA Approves Topical Photodynamic Therapy for Superficial BCC
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the supplemental New Drug Application for aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride topical gel, 10% (Ameluz), in combination with photodynamic therapy (PDT) using the BF-RhodoLED lamp series, for the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in adult patients.

SUO/AUA Updates Guidelines for Non–Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
The American Urologic Association (AUA), in partnership with the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) has released an amendment for 2026 to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Non–Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) Guideline, published in The Journal of Urology. The amendment introduces 40 new and updated recommendations regarding risk stratification, pathologic terminology, biomarkers, surveillance strategies, and treatment options.
