Findings from a substudy of the phase III PROTEUS trial provided further support for the use of perioperative apalutamide and androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) before and after surgery for patients with high-risk localized and locally advanced prostate cancer, according to results presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress 2026 (Abstract LBA53). During the meeting, Alberto Briganti, MD, PhD, Professor of Urology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, presented the results of the substudy.
Patients with advanced melanoma achieved deep and durable responses after receiving the tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy lifileucel alongside the immune checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab as a first-line treatment, according to results from a new clinical trial. Approximately two-thirds (62.5%) of patients saw their tumors shrink significantly, with many experiencing substantial and long-lasting responses to the combined treatment.
Sacituzumab tirumotecan extended both progression-free and overall survival compared with standard chemotherapy in patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer, according to findings from the phase III TroFuse-005/ENGOT-en23/GOG-3095 trial presented at the ESMO Congress 2026 (Abstract LBA11). A report of the findings was also simultaneously published in The Lancet.
Breast cancer screening with digital breast tomosynthesis plus synthesized two-dimensional mammography resulted in fewer invasive interval breast cancers over 2 years than standard digital mammography, although the difference did not reach statistical significance. Weigel et al reported the 24-month follow-up results of the randomized TOSYMA trial in The Lancet Oncology.
I have had many idols in medicine. Many eventually let me down. Claudia Henschke, PhD, MD, Professor of Radiology and Head of the Lung and Cardiac Screening Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, an expert in diagnostic radiology, and a pioneer in computed tomography (CT) screening for early lung cancer, never let me down.
Three phase III studies in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) were among the notable findings presented during a Presidential Symposium at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer held in Seoul. The studies addressed important questions...
For patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma, the timing of progression is one of the factors Peter A. Riedell, MD, considers when choosing the next treatment. A long first remission may support another course of chemoimmunotherapy, but progression within 24 months of starting...
Growing up, I was a curious, empathetic kid with an interest in biology. When I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma 2 months before I turned 15, those qualities shaped how I engaged with my care. I asked questions, wanted to understand what was happening in my body, and built strong...
KENNETH R. CARSON, MD, PhD THOMAS WILSON, PhD, DrPH CHARLES L. BENNETT, MD, PhD, MPP, MS (Law), FASCO Real-world data (RWD) provide raw material from which real-world evidence (RWE) is generated, but the two terms are not synonymous. Over the past decade, RWD and RWE have become...
Mass General Brigham researchers from the Gene Lay Institute of Immunology and Inflammation, along with researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Broad Institute, have identified biological differences in colorectal tumors that may help explain why the disease can behave more aggressively ...
Areej R. El-Jawahri, MD, FASCO, was named by ASCO as the 2026 recipient of the Joseph Simone Quality Care Award. She accepted her award and presented her keynote lecture at the 2026 ASCO Quality Care Symposium held recently in Boston. Dr. El-Jawahri is Co-Director of the Cancer Outcomes Research...
In patients with advanced PD-L1–negative nonsquamous non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without targetable genomic alterations, first-line treatment with the Trop-2–directed antibody-drug conjugate sacituzumab tirumotecan plus pembrolizumab demonstrated a significant progression-free...
