Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Integrative Oncology Scholars Program and Integrative Oncology Fellows Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (https://sites.google.com/view/integrative-oncology-scholars-/home). Launched in 2018, the Integrative Oncology Scholars Program offers educational training in how to evaluate the scientific evidence of the efficacy of complementary therapies, including acupuncture, yoga, meditation, physical activity, and nutrition, to relieve the common side effects of cancer and its treatment.
The program, which includes a 1-year certificate program and a 2-year integrative oncology fellowship, is supported through a 5-year grant from the National Cancer Institute. Since its launch, the program has educated more than 100 oncology providers from a variety of disciplines, including radiation therapy, medical and surgical oncology, and palliative care, as well as primary care and dermatology, in evidence-based integrative oncology practices.
Course Curriculum
The 1-year certificate program, which is open to physicians, advanced practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and pharmacists, is a hybrid course that meets monthly for 10 months. The 2-year integrative oncology fellowship is open to medical doctors and doctors of osteopathic medicine. Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will be eligible for board certification through the American Board of Integrative Medicine.
