The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has announced that all spring 2020 maintenance of certification (MOC) assessment administrations are canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. They issued the following communication:

As frontline health-care professionals, many board-certified internists will experience significant personal and professional stress and disruption during the coming weeks. The care and services provided by oncologists along with physicians and health-care professionals across medical specialties are critical to the collective success in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and your safety and well-being are a primary concern at this time.

ABIM is taking the following steps to ensure sitting for an ABIM exam doesn’t unnecessarily put you or your coworkers’ health at risk, or pull you away from where you are needed most.

  • All spring 2020 MOC assessments have been canceled
  • No physician will have their certification status negatively impacted because of this decision
  • Physicians scheduled to take a spring assessment have been contacted by ABIM via email with individualized guidance on your options moving forward; ABIM has also created a dedicated webpage to provide updates on what it is doing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have questions about an upcoming assessment or your MOC program requirements, please sign in to your ABIM Physician Portal. If you need additional assistance, contact ABIM at 1-800-441-ABIM or request@abim.org.
