Following a national search, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected Senthil K. Muthuswamy, PhD, as the next Director of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR). He assumed the role effective July 26, 2026.
Senthil K. Muthuswamy, PhD
Dr. Muthuswamy previously served as Chief of CCR’s Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics. An internationally recognized cancer biologist, he pioneered the development and use of three-dimensional organoid culture and co-culture methods for mechanistic, translational, and co-clinical studies. His research has also helped define the role of cell polarity proteins in cancer biology and therapy resistance.
Before joining NCI, Dr. Muthuswamy held faculty and leadership positions at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. He joined CCR in 2022 as Senior Investigator and Chief of the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics. He earned his PhD from McMaster University and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School.
