Denise R. Aberle, MD, Honored by IASLC for Contributions to the Prevention of Lung Cancers

Denise R. Aberle, MD, of the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), was recognized by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) with the Joseph W. Cullen Prevention/Early Detection Award at the IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Barcelona. The award honors Dr. Aberle for her lifetime achievement in the prevention of lung and other thoracic cancers.

Denise R. Aberle, MD

Dr. Aberle has been Vice Chair for Research in Radiological Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for 19 years. Her current research focuses on characterizing indeterminate lung nodules and early lung cancers using semantic, quantitative, and machine-learning techniques in combination with clinical and molecular features. She previously served as President of the Society of Thoracic Radiology at the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). She has also received many awards for her work in lung cancer early detection from IASLC, the UCLA Clinical Translational Science Institute, the American Lung Association, and ACRIN.

Dr. Aberle was honored on September 7, 2019 at the Opening Ceremony of the IASLC 2019 WCLC.
