Thomas J. Herzog, MD, took office as President of the GOG Foundation (GOG-F, formerly the Gynecologic Oncology Group), Inc, on July 20, 2023, at the NRG Oncology Summer Meeting. Former GOG-F President, Larry J. Copeland, MD, passed the presidential gavel to Dr. Herzog at the GOG-F Board of Directors meeting. Dr. Herzog is currently Deputy Director of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center and Paul & Carolyn Flory Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.

“It has been an honor to serve the GOG Foundation over the past 3 decades, the past 6 years as the President,” Dr. Copeland stated. “The many accomplishments over recent years must be attributed to the great team, both staff and physician leaders, who work tirelessly daily. Dr. Herzog is the perfect individual to oversee the continuation of the pursuit of the GOG Foundation mission to transform the standard of care.” Dr. Copeland is the William Greenville Pace III and Joann Norris Collins-Pace Chair for Cancer Research at The University of Ohio–James Comprehensive Cancer Center. He now serves as Immediate Past President.

More About the GOG Foundation and Dr. Herzog

Dr. Herzog will be responsible for the GOG Foundation, which includes the GOG Foundation corporate membership in the NRG Oncology Foundation, Inc, and the GOG-Partners program. The GOG Foundation, in collaboration with the NSABP Foundation, Inc, and the RTOG Foundation, Inc, formed the NRG Oncology Foundation, Inc, in 2012. In addition to the NRG responsibilities, Dr. Herzog will also oversee the GOG Partners program founded in 2013.

Dr. Herzog brings a comprehensive background in clinical trials, the integral business aspects, and acumen to this position. He is a practicing gynecologic oncologist and a member of the Board of Directors of GOG-F; Dr. -Herzog has served as Treasurer of GOG-F from 2014 to 2023 and as Associate Director of the GOG Partners program.
