Edward E. Partridge, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer of the Birmingham, Alabama–based Guideway Care, according to an announcement by Craig Parker, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Partridge, a gynecologic oncologist, is highly regarded for his work to improve access to quality health care for underserved populations and to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. He served for many years as Director of The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“Through his work in establishing the UAB Cancer Community Network, Dr. -Partridge has played an integral role in creating new and better ways to help cancer patients and families navigate the complexities of cancer treatment,” said Mr. Parker.

According to Dr. Partridge, while there are many forces at work bringing about change in the future of cancer care, none is predicted to have a bigger effect than upcoming changes in reimbursement models. “It’s clear that insurance companies and care providers are going to adopt new forms of payment partnerships in an effort to achieve better results with fewer dollars,” he said. “These new payment models will create tremendous opportunities to redesign patient care to be more cost-effective while producing better outcomes and a better patient experience. Guideway Care will play a critical role in the transition from fee-for-service to value-based care delivery, by giving cancer care providers more tools to achieve the triple aim of quality care, controlled costs, and a better patient experience,” he explained.
