Allison J. Applebaum, PhD, FAPOS, recently announced the launch of the website for the Steven S. Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York (www.mountsinai.org/care/palliative-care/elbaum-center-caregiving).

Dr. Applebaum is Director of the Center for Caregiving. Additionally, she is Professor in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

The Center for Caregiving was initiated earlier this year as a multidisciplinary home for caregiving science that includes a clinical service supporting caregivers across the entire Mount Sinai health system. It also serves as a research enterprise focused on improving the health system’s capacity to support family caregivers and more seamlessly integrate them into the treatment team; a training program to promote the next generation of caregiving scientists; and, in partnership with the Center to Advance Palliative Care, a dissemination and advocacy arm, to help communicate the case for caregiver support to national stakeholders. The Center provides tools, training, and technical assistance to organizations nationally to replicate effective caregiver support programs.

Dr. Applebaum explained that the launch of the new website was timed for National Family Caregivers Month in November. The website will be updated regularly and those who are interested in sharing news or resources for caregiving are invited to reach out to Caregivers@mssm.edu.

“It’s incredible to see this long-term vision come to fruition after so many years. What I’m most excited about is our Caregiver Resources page, where we will keep a growing list of local, state, and national resources for caregivers,” Dr. Applebaum shared.

The Steven S. Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving was established by a gift from Trudy Elbaum Gottesman and Robert W. Gottesman in memory of Trudy’s brother, Steven S. Elbaum, who passed away in January 2025 at the age of 76.
