ASCO has developed resources to educate and assist oncology practices in transitioning to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 10th Edition of its International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) coding system. Practices are encouraged to prepare for the transition before the October 1, 2014, deadline.
On that date, ICD-10 will fully replace ICD-9 and providers may no longer bill with ICD-9 codes. Therefore, it is important to take the time to educate oneself about ICD-10 and determine what impact it will have on your practice. ASCO resources are available on its online resource center for transitioning to ICD-10, which is available at http://www.asco.org/practice-research/icd-10. In addition, CMS has developed an online ICD-10 implementation guide that provides step-by-step guidance on how to transition to ICD-10. To access the webpage, please visit http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding/ICD10/index.html?redirect=/icd10.
