The COVID-19 pandemic has made 2020 a challenging year for everyone, including cancer care providers, many of whom have had difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment (PPE) for their patients and staff during the pandemic. To help ease this burden on its members, ASCO partnered with Project N95, a not-for-profit organization, to offer a discount on much-needed PPE for qualifying ASCO members in the United States.
Through this special limited-time offer in August 2020, qualifying ASCO members had access to a supply of PPE, including:
- N95 masks (FDA 510[K] cleared and certified by CDC-NIOSH)
- Disposable isolation gowns
- Disposable face shields.
“Throughout the pandemic, ASCO members have been on the front lines of treating cancer while protecting their patients and staff from COVID-19,” said ASCO Clinical Affairs Vice President Stephen S. Grubbs, MD, FASCO. “In partnering with Project N95, we were able to provide oncology practices with access to the PPE necessary for ensuring the safe delivery of cancer care.”
Following key communications outreach to ASCO members, Project N95 helped provide over 15,000 units of PPE to ASCO members across the country. Access to PPE is especially important for cancer care providers, since people with cancer are often immunocompromised.
