New Roles at St. Louis Siteman Cancer Center

Daniel C. Link, MD, has been named Deputy Director of Siteman Cancer Center (SCC), based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis. In addition, Dr. Link, who also is the Alan A. and Edith L. Wolff Distinguished Professor of Medicine, is Chief of the Division of Oncology in the Department of Medicine. Ramaswamy Govindan, MD, the Anheuser-Busch Endowed Chair in Medical Oncology and Director of the Section of Medical Oncology, now serves as Associate Chief of the Division of Oncology at SCC in St. Louis.

New Deputy Director 

Dr. Link will continue the work of John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, the Virginia E. and Sam J. Golman Professor of Medicine, who has led the Division of Oncology since 1997 and served as SCC’s first Deputy Director. Dr. DiPersio, a physician-scientist specializing in the treatment of leukemia with immunotherapies and stem cell transplantation, is stepping down from these leadership roles to return to full-time patient care and research to improve strategies for stem cell transplantation, treat graft-vs-host disease, and develop novel types of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies for blood cancers.

New Associate Chief

A thoracic medical oncologist, Dr. ­Govindan is an expert in developing prognostic biomarkers in patients with non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). He led the first study highlighting the stark differences in genomic alterations between lung adenocarcinomas from smokers and nonsmokers as well as the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Genome Atlas project to characterize genomic alterations in NSCLC.
