Each year, the American Urological Association (AUA) honors the contributions of physician researchers and educators in the field of medicine, the specialty of urology, and the organization. The following individuals are the 2021 honorees:
Ian M. Thompson Jr, MD, Ramon Guiteras Award, for outstanding leadership and contributions in clinical trials and treatment of urologic cancers
Yves Fradet, MD, Hugh Hampton Young Award, for outstanding mentorship, research, leadership, and exemplary surgical care of patients with urologic cancers
Stacy Loeb, MD, PhD, MSc, Gold Cystoscope Award, for outstanding research to enhance the value of prostate cancer screening and active surveillance
Ronald Rabinowitz, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award, for advancing the mission of the AUA by promoting education, research, and advocacy
Tracey L. Krupski, MD, Robert C. Flanigan Education Award, for fostering evidence-based decision-making in urology and outstanding commitment to resident and medical student education
Mary Ann Lynn Stothers, MD, MHSc, Victor A. Politano Award, for excellence in advancing innovative methods for treating urinary incontinence throughout the world
John L. Phillips, MD, William P. Didusch Art & History Award, for decades of outstanding writings, cataloging urologic history, and innovatively using history to educate residents
Michael J. Droller, MD, Distinguished Contribution Award, for critical contributions to the understanding of the biology and pathogenesis of bladder cancer
Peter A. Pinto, MD, Distinguished Contribution Award, for unique and significant contributions involving novel methods for diagnosing prostate cancer
Fred Saad, MD, Distinguished Contribution Award, for numerous significant contributions to the study and understanding of advanced prostate cancer
Christopher M. Gonzalez, MD, MBA, Distinguished Service Award, for outstanding service as AUA Public Policy Chair and for launching the Annual Urology Advocacy Summit and AUA Political Action Committee
Kevin Pranikoff, MD, Distinguished Service Award, for dedicated service on AUA committees for 3 decades and contributions to the Board as the Northeastern Section Representative
Roger E. Schultz, MD, Distinguished Service Award, for dedicated service on AUA committees for 2 decades and contributions to the Board as the Mid-Atlantic Section Representative
Sanford J. Siegel, MD, Gold-Headed Cane Award, for tireless efforts to improve urology practice and support prostate cancer research and awareness
Peter E. Clark, MD, Presidential Citation, for significant contributions to the urologic care of patients as Practice Guidelines Chair
Jeffrey M. Frankel, MD, Presidential Citation, for tireless support and diplomatic advocacy for high-quality private practice care within organized medicine
Marguerite C. Lippert, MD, Presidential Citation, for committed contributions to the success of women in urology and the education of urologists
Isaac J. Powell, MD, Presidential Citation, for outstanding contributions regarding the biology, genetics, and environmental impact of prostate cancer in Black men
Michael L. Ritchey, MD, Presidential Citation, for outstanding contributions to pediatric urologic oncology and leadership with the American Board of Urology and the American Board of Medical Specialties in supporting urologic certification
Norm D. Smith, MD, Presidential Citation, for leadership in advocating for fair and accurate relative value scale payments of physician services.
