Kieron Dunleavy, MD
Kieron Dunleavy, MD, was appointed Director of Hematology at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Georgetown University, in Washington, DC. He is now also Chief of the Lymphoma Program at Georgetown University. Dr. Dunleavy joined Lombardi/Georgetown earlier this year. He is former Professor of Medicine and Head of the Lymphoma Program at George Washington University, also in Washington, DC.
In an interview with The ASCO Post, Dr. Dunleavy said: “I am delighted to join Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center [as Director of Hematology]. This is a very vibrant institution and offers a great opportunity to continue to build on an outstanding hematology program.”
Dr. Dunleavy is also Associate Physician, Regional Cancer Care Associates, at the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.
He added: “Our goal [at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center] is to offer our hematology patients outstanding care and access to state-of-the-art clinical trials in hematologic malignancies and benign hematology disorders.”
Education and Training
Dr. Dunleavy received his medical degree from University College in Dublin. He performed his medical oncology fellowship at St. James’ and Mater Hospitals, Trinity College and University College Dublin. Dr. Dunleavy then performed a fellowship in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Later, he served as Clinical Director in the Lymphoid Malignancies Branch at the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Dunleavy is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP). He has been a member of ASCO and the American Society of Hematology since 2001.
