Raymond N. DuBois, MD, PhD, FAACR, was recently appointed Executive Chairman of the Board of The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research. Dr. DuBois is Director of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hollings Cancer Center and Distinguished University Professor at MUSC. As The Mark Foundation’s first Executive Chairman, he will lead its board of directors in addition to assuming an executive role with the Foundation.

Concurrently, The Mark Foundation announced that its founder, Alex Knaster, has committed to funding an additional $500 million to cutting-edge cancer research, along with $150 million already awarded by the Foundation since 2017. The Foundation uses its team’s scientific and professional experience to identify and fund both academic research and early-stage biotech companies.
Dr. DuBois is internationally known for his work elucidating the role of inflammation and inflammatory mediators in the progression of colon cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies. He has until recently served as Dean of the MUSC College of Medicine, and he previously held leadership positions as Executive Director of the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University with a joint clinical appointment at the Mayo Clinic, Provost and Executive Vice President at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

In addition, Dr. DuBois is a Fellow of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and has served as Chair and President of the Foundation Board of Trustees, Past President of the AACR, and Editor-in-Chief of the Association journal Cancer Prevention Research. “The Mark Foundation has made an outstanding choice, and we look forward to continuing our work with Dr. DuBois and The Mark Foundation to advance cutting-edge cancer research and accelerate life-saving progress for patients,” said Margaret Foti, PhD, MD (hc), Chief Executive Officer of the AACR.
