Hidayatullah G. Munshi, MD, has been named Leader of the Tumor Environment and Metastasis (TEAM) Program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
The TEAM Program utilizes an integrative approach to elucidate key molecular interactions between tumor cells and components of the host stromal microenvironment including matrix, vascular structures, and cells of the immune system. The overall objective of the TEAM Program is to obtain a more detailed understanding of these fundamental processes and to translate the findings into the clinical setting as novel diagnostic or therapeutic approaches for the inhibition of tumor metastasis.
Dr. Munshi, Associate Professor in Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine, is an expert in how tumor stromal matrix and proteases promote tumor progression and resistance to therapy. In collaboration with Co-Leader Carole LaBonne, PhD, he will help integrate efforts to bring basic science discoveries from the TEAM Program to the bedside.
Dr. Munshi earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School before completing his residency at the University of Washington Medical Center and fellowships at the University of Michigan Health System and the McGaw Medical Center at Northwestern. ■
