A large phase III trial, RT CHARM, presented at the 2024 ASTRO Annual Meeting revealed that hypofractionated radiation therapy was found to be noninferior to conventional fractionation in patients with breast cancer undergoing breast reconstruction after mastectomy. The study may potentially change the standard of care for postmastectomy radiation therapy, offering a significant step forward for this patient population, showing reduced treatment time to 3 weeks without compromising breast reconstruction and achieving low complication rates.
