Castor oil, derived from the shrub Ricinus communis, has been historically used for constipation, labor induction, and breast tumor treatment. Despite preclinical evidence of its diverse effects, clinical studies are limited. It is promoted as a laxative and has been studied for labor induction. However, there is no clinical evidence to support its use in treating breast cancer. Castor oil may have adverse effects and contraindications, and pregnant women should avoid it. The U.S. FDA recognizes it as a safe stimulant laxative, but not for treating cancer.
