The Cancer Atlas, Fourth Edition reveals that approximately 50% of cancer deaths globally are linked to modifiable risk factors like tobacco use, unhealthy diets, and environmental pollutants. The report highlights alarming trends, such as rising lung and colorectal cancer rates in lower-income nations and a new rise in colorectal cancer among young adults in wealthier countries. Additionally, it emphasizes the urgent need for universal health coverage to prevent millions of cancer deaths by 2030 and projects a potential 74% increase in cancer cases by 2050 without effective interventions.
