The Mount Sinai Health System has announced the creation of a new academic Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Raja M. Flores, MD, will be the Founding Chairman of the Department for the Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Flores, the Steven and Ann Ames Professor in Thoracic Surgery, will lead an established team of thoracic surgeons, as well as a broader coalition of newly recruited physicians and scientists, across the Health System. The Department will provide clinical care, conduct research, and offer educational activities focused on acquired and congenital diseases of the thoracic cavity, including the lungs, esophagus, and chest wall.
Dr. Flores is recognized for his pioneering efforts in the treatment of mesothelioma. ■
