Cancer.Net is the only site for which all medical content is peer-reviewed and approved for accuracy, timeliness, and clarity by a highly-credentialed editorial board.

May 18 marked the 10th anniversary of Cancer.Net, the patient information website of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). This milestone is not only important to the more than 12 million cancer survivors in the United States who have searched for reliable answers to many of the issues they face, but also to the Conquer Cancer Foundation, which has been a long-time supporter of the site and ASCO’s patient information program.

Invaluable Source for Patients and Their Families

As technology and progress in cancer research and treatment have evolved in the last decade, so has Cancer.Net. It initially launched in May 2002 as People Living With Cancer (plwc.org) to provide a trusted resource that oncology professionals could feel confident referring their patients to and that patients could rely on for credible information. Well-informed patients are their own best advocates and invaluable partners for physicians. By providing timely, comprehensive, oncologist-approved information, Cancer.Net helps foster this relationship while also helping patients and families make informed health-care decisions.A key strength of the website that continues today is the rigorous medical review process of its Editorial Board. Cancer.Net is the only site for which all medical content is peer-reviewed and approved for accuracy, timeliness, and clarity by a highly-credentialed editorial board comprised of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, oncology social workers, genetic counselors, patient advocates, and other experts.

For 10 years Cancer.Net has provided trusted cancer education to people living with cancer and to those who care for and about them. It is an incredibly valuable cancer resource that addresses all aspects of cancer—from prevention through diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Cancer.Net also offers free, downloadable patient education materials for use by doctors, nurses, and other health-care professionals, as well as patients, caregivers, and patient advocates.

The Conquer Cancer Foundation is proud to support Cancer.Net and is working to ensure that it will always be responsive to the needs of people with cancer. To help guarantee another 10 years of trusted cancer education, we invite you to join us by making a donation online at www.conquercancerfoundation.org/SupportPatientEducation.

Happy birthday Cancer.Net, and many more! ■
