ASCO, in collaboration with international oncology societies, hosts International Palliative Care Workshops (IPCWs) designed to teach participants about palliative care best practices. IPCWs share communication strategies (such as how to deliver bad news), pain assessment methods, methods to manage medications, comprehensive care and symptom management practices, and strategies to implement palliative care services in their practice setting (hospitals, community clinics, etc.).

Since ASCO held the first IPCW in 2009, workshops have taken place in countries including Egypt, Oman, Mexico, Ghana, Turkey, Honduras, and Argentina. In 2014, ASCO held courses in three countries and trained 161 participants. This year, ASCO plans to hold IPCWs in India, Morocco, and Nepal.

All cancer care professionals in the respective country/region are invited to participate. Visit www.asco.org/international-programs and select “Educational Opportunities” to find more information on IPCWs. ■
