Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, Chief of the Division of General Surgery and Co-Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been elected a member-at-large for the Society of University Surgeons. According to the society, the member-at-large position is an important part of its nominating committee.
“I am very grateful to have been elected to this position by my peers,” said Dr. Farma, who is also Program Director of the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Fox Chase. “It’s very humbling to be acknowledged by fellow professionals in this way.”

Membership in the Society of University Surgeons is bestowed upon surgeons who are well established and have demonstrated scholarly or creative ability that positively impacts their field. Members must be a faculty member in a university department of surgery and its affiliated teaching hospital and have completed graduate university residency training in surgery. Their work as a surgeon, teacher, and investigator must demonstrate promise of a successful career in academic surgery.
