Researchers from around the country joined together for learning and collaboration at the 2019 ASCO Research Community Forum (RCF) Annual Meeting in September.

During the meeting, Aisha Peterson Johnson, MD, MPH, MBA, of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Compliance, delivered a training workshop to help participants prepare for FDA audits.

Other sessions focused on leveraging technology to improve clinical trial implementation and accrual in a range of research settings; improving patient accrual to clinical trials; staffing and workload management strategies; and preparing for the future of clinical trial research.

FDA Oncology Center of Excellence Director Richard Pazdur, MD, delivered a keynote address, in which he recounted his 40-year journey in cancer medicine. His address guided attendees through the immense progress the field has made, as well as the evolution of the FDA and its role in cancer care. He also discussed how industry and government can work together, how researchers can push the field forward, and the issue of cost in oncology care.

The ASCO RCF has established an online forum where physician investigators and research staff who are conducting and managing clinical trials can network, share best practices, and access resources. The materials and resources are designed to support cancer research sites in all settings. To access the forum, visit the Research Community Forum page on myconnection.asco.org and enter your ASCO.org username and password. Click “join” in the settings (next to the Research Community Forum title).
