Maura Gillison, MD, PhD

Maura Gillison, MD, PhD, a physician-researcher who has made significant contributions to the fields of cancer biology, therapy, and epidemiology, was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine during the Academy’s annual meeting. Dr. Gillison is the Jeg Coughlin Chair in Cancer Research, Professor in the Division of Medical Oncology, and member of the Cancer Control Program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center–Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

Dr. Gillison has made fundamental contributions to the understanding of the pathogenesis of cancer of the head and neck and discovered that the human papillomavirus virus produces head and neck cancer in a subset of younger patients. ■
