James Ewing Lecture: Jedd D. Wolchok, MD, PhD, presented the 2017 James Ewing Lecture on “Immunologic Checkpoint Blockade: Exploring Combinations and Mechanisms.” Dr. Wolchok is the Lloyd J. Old and Daniel K. Ludwig Chair in Clinical Investigation, Chief of the Melanoma and Immunotherapeutics Service, Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The James Ewing Lecture is supported by an independent grant from the SSO Foundation.

John Wayne Clinical Research Lecture: Lorenzo Ferri, MD, PhD, presented the 2017 John Wayne Clinical Research Lecture on “Postoperative Complications and Cancer Recurrence: Dissecting the Role of Neutrophils in the Metastatic Process.” Dr. Ferri is the David S. Mulder Chair in Surgery and a Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Oncology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. The John Wayne Clinical Research Lecture is supported by an independent grant from the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.

Presidential Address: Daniel G. Coit, MD, presented his Presidential Address “Charting the Course Ahead for the Society of Surgical Oncology: ‘The Future Ain’t What It Used to Be.” Dr. Coit is Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

American Cancer Society/SSO Basic Science Lecture: Andrew J. Dannenberg, MD, presented the American Cancer Society/SSO Basic Science Lecture on “Obesity, White Adipose Inflammation, and Breast Cancer.” Dr. Dannenberg is the Henry R. Erie, MC-Roberts Family Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. ■
