The Sarcoma Alliance recently announced the appointment of William Tseng, MD, to the organization’s Board of Directors. A surgical oncologist at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), Dr. Tseng specializes in soft-tissue sarcoma.
“Our Board of Directors comprises a dedicated team of leaders who are committed to providing support, education, guidance, and connection to the needs of sarcoma patients. Sarcomas make up the rare 1% of all diagnosed cancers,” said Alyssa O’Driscoll, MBA, MPA, Executive Director of the Sarcoma Alliance. “We are excited to channel Dr. Tseng’s energy, talent, and expertise into furthering our mission.”
Expanding Awareness and Access
“I am excited about joining the Sarcoma Alliance Board,” stated Dr. Tseng. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow Board members to continue to improve the medical care of sarcoma patients throughout the United States. Consistent with our mission, my goal is to help patients diagnosed today—at the present moment—not necessarily through support of research to find a cure, although this is also very important. Through the Sarcoma Alliance, I hope to increase awareness of the importance of seeing a sarcoma specialist on all levels: for the patient, the nonspecialist provider, and the insurance company. I also hope to expand patient access to a sarcoma specialist, which may leverage nontraditional options like telemedicine.”
Dr. Tseng performs surgery for adult patients with sarcoma in the limbs, trunk, and retroperitoneum. At USC, he is an active member of the multidisciplinary sarcoma team and leads the Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Surgery Program. Dr. Tseng is also actively involved in advancing the field of soft-tissue sarcoma through research and collaboration, with expertise in well-differentiated/dedifferentiated liposarcoma. Dr. Tseng strongly believes in the comprehensive and individualized care of patients with sarcoma, balancing aggressive therapy with preservation of function and quality of life.
