In light of the launch of his campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, former Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden announced that they are stepping down as Co-Chairs of the Biden Cancer Initiative. They are also resigning from the Board of Directors.

“[W]e are glad that the work of the Biden Cancer Initiative will not just continue but—we trust, with your guidance—it will thrive,” the Bidens wrote in an April 25th letter addressed to the Biden Cancer Initiative Directors. “Cancer is not only personal to us but to so many Americans and people around the world. And for patients, caregivers, and cancer fighters everywhere—every day, every minute matters. On behalf of them, we implore you to keep up the progress and we wish you great success as the Biden Cancer Initative continues its important work,” the Bidens concluded.

Their charitable organization, the Biden Foundation, announced this week that it would suspend operations effective immediately.
