Friends of Cancer Research recently announced its 2023 Cancer Leadership Awards honorees: Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Robert Califf, MD, and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI).

Dr. Califf, recognized for his work in the field of cardiology and the broader medical field through his visionary work on clinical trials, will receive the Ellen V. Sigal Advocacy Leadership Award. As FDA Commissioner under two Presidents and a respected member of multiple influential public health committees, Dr. Califf has revolutionized patient care through visionary leadership and tireless dedication.

“Dr. Califf has had a profound impact on the lives of so many. His steadfast commitment to patients and innovation have changed the scientific landscape. I am truly honored to present him with an award in my name,” said Ellen V. Sigal, Founder and Chair of Friends of Cancer Research.

Congresswoman Dingell, a steadfast advocate for patients and their families, will be honored with the Marlene A. Malek Public Service Award. Congresswoman Dingell’s contributions to cancer research, accessible health care for women and children, and the overall well-being of the nation serve as an example for all who aspire to serve.

The honorees will be recognized at this year’s 27th Friends of Cancer Research Cancer Leadership Awards in Washington, DC.
