Matthew A. Powell, MD, assumed the position of President of the Society of Gynecological Oncology (SGO) at the conclusion of the 2026 SGO Annual Meeting. Dr. Powell is the Ira C. and Judith Gall Distinguished Professor, Division of Gynecologic On-cology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
In a statement published by SGO, Dr. Powell said “My top pri-orities include working with our outstanding meeting program chairs and committees to create exceptional content for our key events: SGO Winter Meeting, The SGO Annual Meeting on Wom-en’s Health, and SGO Allied Health Professionals Meeting.” He added, “We know we need to adapt to provide timely educational materials for our members, and many efforts such as updating our web/device portals will remain a priority. We will also focus on making the lives of our communities better through not only educational offerings but by continuing to empower and advocate for tools to improve wellness.”
Dr. Powell follows Immediate Past President Karen Lu, MD. Dr. Lu is the Executive Vice President and Physician-in-Chief at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
The 2026 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer was held April 10–13, 2026, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The meeting is dedicated exclusively to the presentation of data in ovarian, cervical, uter-ine, vulvar, and vaginal malignancies.
Gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncolo-gists, advanced practice providers, fellows, nurses, and research-ers convened at the 2026 Annual Meeting from across the United States and internationally.
