Beth Karlan, MD, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to Gynecologic Oncology

The International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) has honored Beth Karlan, MD, with its lifetime achievement award. The annual award is presented to individuals who have performed outstanding service and accomplishments that span their career in gynecologic oncology and who have contributed significantly to improving women’s quality of life.

Dr. Karlan is Director of Cancer Population Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is being recognized for advancing the understanding of hereditary cancers and molecular drivers of ovarian cancer and for her commitment to seeking better ways to prevent and eradicate deadly cancers. The award will be presented to Dr. Karlan at the IGCS’s annual global meeting in Rome on September 1.

“I am humbled by this recognition and especially honored to be receiving this award from the IGCS,” said Dr. Karlan, who is also Vice Chair of Women’s Health Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA.
