ASCO’s Chief Medical Officer applies medical and scientific knowledge and experience to lead and shape ASCO’s research, public policy, and care delivery activities and to further the missions of all ASCO affiliates. In the role as a senior executive, the Chief Medical Officer helps to oversee strategic planning, resource allocation, and decision-making for the entire organization. The Chief Medical Officer has wide-ranging responsibilities that include leading ASCO’s own research enterprise and team of researchers; serving as a key public spokesperson and expert commentator for ASCO; providing medical and scientific guidance for ASCO and the Association for Clinical Oncology’s public policy initiatives; and serving as an advocate, leader, and ambassador to ASCO members and cancer organizations across the United States and worldwide. The Chief Medical Officer serves on ASCO’s Executive Leadership Team and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The position is located in ASCO’s Alexandria, Virginia, headquarters.
ASCO will consider a diverse pool of candidates for the role. The organization is seeking a highly accomplished physician leader with a deep passion for, commitment to, and track record of achievements in cancer medicine and research. Board certification in an oncologic specialty is expected. Candidates should have an in-depth understanding of the current trends and issues affecting oncology clinical practice today, as well as a vision for the future of oncology, including future states of education, research, and clinical care delivery.
