Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center announced that Nancy E. Davidson, MD, Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium—1 of the 47 National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer centers nationwide. Her appointment will become effective December 1.

In her new role, Dr. Davidson will serve as a bridge builder across the cancer treatment, clinical, and translational research programs of consortium members Fred Hutch, University of Washington School of Medicine (UW Medicine), Seattle Children’s, and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance—the cancer treatment arm of Fred Hutch, UW Medicine, and Seattle Children’s.

Prior to joining the Pitt faculty, she served as the Breast Cancer Research Professor of Oncology and founding Director of the Breast Cancer Program at Johns Hopkins. She is a member of the scientific advisory boards for many foundations and cancer centers. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Davidson is Past President of ASCO and current President of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Various Leadership Roles

Dr. Davidson will serve in a variety of leadership roles for the Fred Hutch/UW Cancer Consortium institutions. At Fred Hutch, she will be Senior Vice President, member, and Director of the Clinical Research Division. At UW Medicine, she will be Professor and Head of the Division of Medical Oncology. At the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Dr. Davidson will serve as President and Executive Director and will also care for patients with breast cancer as part of the breast cancer team.

Dr. Davidson will take on the role currently held by Frederick Appelbaum, MD, as Executive Director of the Fred Hutch/UW Cancer Consortium and as President and Executive Director of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Dr. Appelbaum will remain Executive Vice President and Deputy Director of Fred Hutch and will continue to treat patients at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. ■
